North Carolina EV Specialty License Plate

Help us get North Carolina a specialty license plate to increase awareness and support of electric vehicles!

We are currently gathering applications from people interested in establishing an EV specialty license plate. The application can be downloaded here. Please follow the steps below to ensure everything is completed correctly.

A standard specialty plate (you have no choice over license plate characters) will cost $10 annually, due in addition to regular license fees. A personalized version of the plate (you request specific characters) will cost an additional $30 (for a total of $40 annually). However, we have secured funding to cover applicants’ initial $10 fee, so your first year could be free!

Section 2

• If you’re interested in a standard plate (no choice over license plate characters):
  • Write $10 next to Standard Special Plate Fee
  • Write $10 next to Total Fees Remitted
  • Ignore right column
  • Your initial $10 fee is covered, but in the future, you will be responsible for paying $10 in addition to your annual renewal fee

• If you’re interested in a personalized plate (you request specific license plate characters):
  • Write $10 next to Standard Special Plate Fee
  • Write $30 next to Personalized Plate Fee
  • Write $40 next to Total Fees Remitted
  • Ignore right column
  • Below the bolded text, fill out your preferences for personalized characters. Remember, the vertical “EV” will appear at the end of the license plate
  • Your initial $10 standard plate fee is covered, but you will need to send a check made out to “Advanced Energy” for the $30 personalization fee. In the future, you will be responsible for paying $40 in addition to your annual renewal fee

Reminders

We’ll need one application per license plate. If you are requesting a standard plate, please send only the application. If you are requesting a personalized plate, please send the application and a check made out to “Advanced Energy” for $30 per plate.
